or they think they’re not good enough. As long as they
have a handicap with the WSGA and they’re part of a
member club, they can play in our events. They don’t
have to be scratch golfers, but they just don’t realize that.”
Miley, 45, was surprised to hear he’d been selected.
“When I first heard the news, I was very surprised
because I’ve basically been removed from Wisconsin
since I left for college,” he said.
As an amateur, Miley’s playing peers were Wisconsin’s
well-known foursome of Steve Stricker, Jerry Kelly, J.P.
Hayes and Skip Kendall. Competing against those same
future PGA Tour players, Miley held his own, winning the
Wisconsin State Amateur in 1989 and the Wisconsin State
Open in 1993. Miley also won the WISAA golf champi-
onship – formerly the independent Wisconsin high school
title – in 1982 playing for Milwaukee Marquette.

stated as an amateur. His final appearance on the Wiscon-
sin golf scene came with his runner-up finish at the 1996
State Open at Kenosha CC, where fellow WSGA Hall-of-
Famer Jim Schuman shot a final-round 64 to beat Miley
by two strokes.
Looking back on his career, he recalled a few of his
proudest moments. “Winning the WSGA State Amateur

So I’m undefeated in that tournament. If I never play it
Although no longer a competitive player, Miley has
stayed involved in the game – but in a more recreational
manner, playing as a member of Oaks CC in Tulsa. “I have
a growing family with needs, wants and desires and that
comes first,” said Miley. “I’ve already done all that, so
now it’s their turn. I do try to kill two birds with one stone
by getting them out playing with me and giving them a
good introduction into the game.”
Of his induction, Miley said, “I’m extremely honored
and humbled to be considered in the somewhat same
category with the likes of Steve Stricker and Andy North,
Jerry Kelly and all the other guys that I grew up playing
with. They’ve all done so well professionally that being
associated with them is pretty cool. I’m very honored to
be associated with all those who are already inducted.”
