Josh Smith, a junior at Southwestern
High School located in Hazel Green, ad-
vanced to state as an individual qualifier,
and he left University Ridge as a state
champion. Smith shot 78-77–155 to
emerge as medalist in Division 3. Finish-
ing second was Nate Strigentz of Fond
du Lac St. Mary’s Springs, who shot 77-
79–156. Matt Sieg of Osseo-Fairchild fin-
ished third with scores of 80-79–159.
Cuba City ran away with the Division 3
team championship with a final score of
659, and Osseo-Fairchild finished second
at 686. Defending champion Kohler was
third at 691.

WSGA GOVERNOR’S CUP
John Kestly won the WSGA Governor’s
Cup Championship in June at Geneva
National GC in Lake Geneva. The 36-hole
state championship for players between
the ages of 40 and 54 was held on the

Danielson won his second individual title
in a playoff over Johnny Decker, a sopho-
more at Madison Edgewood. Danielson,
the 2010 Division 2 champion, shot 71-
77–148. Decker shot twin rounds of 74 to
finish at 148, but his third shot on the

Finishing third in Division 2 was Andrew
Morrison of Edgerton High School, who
shot 72-77–149. Gabby Curtis of Altoona,
one of the girls participating in the cham-
pionship because their schools don’t
offer girls golf, finished fourth in Division
2 with scores of 77-74–151.
Edgerton won the Division 2 team title
by five strokes over Madison Edgewood.
Edgerton, which had four players finish in
the top- 12 and ties individually, finished
at 620. Edgewood shot 625, and Notre
Dame Academy was third at 635.
