St. Germain is home to the Margo Rogers
Golf School, operated by head pro Margo
Rogers-Anderson, and the club’s 19th hole
is conveniently located in the adjacent
Whitetail Lodge, a large and impressive
log structure.
Last, but lordy not least, is Rhinelander’s
terrific NorthWood GC, winner of four-
and-a-half stars from Golf Digest’s review-
ers. Many call it the toughest test of golf in
the north, with a slope of 140 and tight
fairways that demand straight shots. If you
can’t hit it straight, just bring extra balls
and play anyway because NorthWood is as
scenic as golf gets; the course acknowl-
edges that nature did a pretty good job of
designing the golf course long before
credited designer Don Herfort arrived to
complete the process in the 1980s.
Museum and Cultural Center at Lac du
Flambeau, where Indian dancing and
pow-wows are often featured at the Indian
Bowl, or at Waswagoning Indian Village,
also at Lac du Flambeau, where a re-created
Indian village tells of early native life.
Other museums include the Dr. Kate
Museum in Woodruff, which tells the story
of the famed “Angel on Snowshoes” and
her Million Penny Parade; the Northwoods
Children’s Museum in Eagle River, home to
hands-on learning; and the North Lakeland
Discovery Center at Manitowish Waters,
a non-profit center aimed at fostering
the stewardship of natural and cultural
resources. ;;
