The U.S. Venture Open started in 1986
with 100 golfers. Twenty-seven years later,
it has grown to more than 800 participants.
The money raised in the 26-year history of
this event makes it one of the nation’s
largest charitable golf outings.
“The event has a reputation of being not
just a really good time and well run, but
people are really committed to the cause,”
Schmidt said.
Proceeds go to the U.S. Venture Open
Fund for the Basic Needs to help fight
poverty in Northeast Wisconsin. Last year,
$1.785 million was raised and the goal this
year is to reach the $2 million mark.
Unique to this event is that U.S. Venture
Inc. pays for all expenses, giving golfers
peace of mind that every dollar contributed goes directly to fighting poverty.
“People that come to the event love to
golf and are excited about golf. But this
event is not about golf at all. It’s a day
where we celebrate a year-long campaign
to fight poverty. We just happen to do it
on the golf course, “ Schmidt said.
The featured guest at this year’s U.S.
Venture Open is Jack Nicklaus. Joining
him will be LPGA legend Nancy Lopez.
