West Bend Mutual joins the team
ith the off-season behind us, it’s
exciting to shift our attention to
the tournament season. The response to
the 2012 WSGA tournament schedule
has been great so far. Applications are
up more than 35 percent from last year.
If you’ve never played in a WSGA event
before, there has never been a better
time to start. With more than 60 tourna-
ments and qualifiers to choose from, I’m
sure you can find a great course to play
on a date that fits your schedule.
As you look at the schedule, you’ll notice that the 101st annual WSGA Pater-Filius (Father-Son) Championship has a
new sponsor for this year, as West Bend
Mutual Insurance has signed on for the
event. We are excited to partner with
such a great Wisconsin-based company
with a long history of community support
and involvement. I believe it’s our first
sponsor who has been around longer
than we have (and we’ve been around
since 1901). As a West Bend native, it’s
also a company that I grew up admiring
having seen first hand the impact they’ve
had on the community.
The 2012 U.S. Women’s Open is rapidly approaching. I was recently invited
to serve on the U.S. Women’s Open
Rules Committee. It will be my first time
W
officiating at a “major” and a great opportunity to get an inside-the-ropes look
at the best golfers in the world and learn
from the best rules officials in the U.S.
Check out the 2012 U.S. Women’s Open
Facebook page if you haven’t already.
Their “Beyond the Ropes” series will
give you a great look at some of the top
players who will be competing by highlighting some of their interests off the
golf course. Tickets are still available for
the event and kids 17 and under are free
with a paid adult admission. Also, as a
thank you to our readers this month, we
have some great ticket and merchandise
giveaways courtesy of our friends at the
U.S. Women’s Open. Keep reading this
issue for your chance to enter.
Finally, the WSGA is pleased to partner
again with “Garbedian on Golf,” one of
Wisconsin's most popular golf talk shows.
It airs on ESPN Milwaukee (540 AM)
Sundays during the golf season from 7
to 9 a.m. The show will feature the
WSGA each week with segments on
tournament news, rules and handicapping.
The show is hosted by long-time WSGA
member and tournament player Chuck
Garbedian.
