Quieter pursuits are also available. Vin-
tage baseball games are among the of-
ferings at Wade House, a Wisconsin
Historic Site near Plymouth. Wearing the
uniforms of players in the 1860s, the local
Greenbush Dead Citys take on such op-
ponents as the Milwaukee Cream Citys
and the Eagle Diamonds. In the lingo of
the times, players are “ballists” and fans
are “cranks,” but the game will still be
recognizable. Wade House is a historic
stagecoach inn that serves as a museum
of the horse and carriage era, so its car-
riage collection is one of the best around.
Costumed guided tours are available,
and families may also be interested in the
annual Civil War Weekend when costumed
re-enactors wage “battles” from another
century.

In Sheboygan, the John Michael Kohler
Arts Center has a strong focus on local
and regional artists along with its collection of national artists’ work. And Sheboygan’s Harbor Center Marina is home
base for charter fishing, kite and wind
surfers and even board surfers; it may
surprise first-time visitors to know that
they are in the “Malibu of the Midwest”
but when the waves are right surfers can
be found along the shore. ;;
