Tony Romo and
Tiger Woods were
partners at Pebble
Beach in February.
The rest of the year, at least when the
schedule of minicamps and other football
responsibilities permit, Romo turns first to
golf to feed his need for competition.
“I love to compete,” he said several
times during a recent phone interview
from his home in Dallas. “I just love com-
peting in general (and) golf is just another
way to compete.”
Romo is said to hold his own in off-sea-
son games with PGA players in the Dallas
area, and has tried three times to qualify
for the U.S. Open. He once made the
Monday qualifier for the PGA Tour’s Byron
Nelson Championship before withdrawing
because of a conflict with his Cowboys
schedule. He also returns to Wisconsin
each summer to take part in events
hosted by the Wisconsin State Golf
Association, for which he also serves as
something of an unofficial ambassador.
He reached the quarterfinals of the 2010
WSGA Match Play Championship before
losing to eventual winner Jordan Elsen,
and he regularly competes in the popular
Ray Fischer Championship at Janesville’s
Riverside GC.
