WSGA members make a difference

You’re a big part of Wisconsin golf

t seems like just yesterday that we were welcoming in a new golf season.

Though the weather may not have cooperated during the early spring months, many golfers enjoyed a few rounds knowing that the golf season in Wisconsin is far too short. As summer progressed, the weather improved, and we have been able to enjoy another great year of Wisconsin golf.

Over the past two months, the Wisconsin State Golf Association has crowned numerous champions. We welcome Rob Jacobsen and John Gullberg (Bestball), Jack Schultz (Match Play), Todd Westrich (Governor’s Cup), Mark Bemowski (Senior Match Play), Mike McDonald (State Amateur), Curt Langille and Richard Pfeil (Senior Bestball), Michael and Keegan Drugan (Pater-Filius Gross), Rick and Jordan Elsen (Pater-Filius Open), Gary and Aaron Blazer (Pater-Filius Net), Jack McKinney (State Junior), and Greg Kiela (Net Amateur) to the list of 2011 WSGA champions. Congratulations to all of these players.

The Wisconsin golf community was

treated to a spectacular United States Amateur Championship at Erin Hills and Blue Mound G&CC. Both courses did an outstanding job of showcasing Wisconsin golf to a national audience. We look forward to even more championship golf in Wisconsin as the U.S. Women’s Open returns to Blackwolf Run in Kohler in 2012.

As we approach the end of the 2011 golf season, I want to extend a big thank you to those that supported the WSGA this year. The WSGA relies on its membership base to support the many programs that give back to golf in Wisconsin.

We have the opportunity to meet a number of members throughout the year at our various tournaments, but there are others we never get the chance to see. Please know that you are a big part of making Wisconsin the great golf state that it is.
