Six Wisconsin
courses listed
in top 100
Six Wisconsin golf courses were named
among the top 100 in America according
to a ranking in Golf Digest’s May issue.
About 1,700 courses were considered,
with about 1,000 evaluators assigning
value numbers in a variety of areas. The
magazine began its ranking in 1966.
Three state courses made the list in the
ranking of top U.S. courses overall, led
by the Straits Course at Whistling Straits
in Sheboygan which tied for 17th. Milwaukee CC in River Hills came in at No.
57, while the River Course at Blackwolf
Run in Kohler was ranked No. 71.
Five state courses made the list of the
top public courses in the U.S. The Straits
Course was ranked No. 3, followed by
the River Course at Blackwolf Run at No.
15. The Irish Course at Whistling Straits
was ranked 35th, while Blackwolf Run’s
Meadow Valleys Course came in at No.
60 and The Bull at Pinehurst Farms in Sheboygan Falls was ranked 86th.
The Straits Course at Whistling Straits (the par- 4 eighth hole
is pictured here) recently was named one of America’s finest
courses by Golf Digest, earning a No. 17 ranking. Inset
photo, the par- 3 12th hole at Milwaukee CC, which plays
over the Milwaukee River, also made the list at No. 57.
