here were signs aplenty, as if I
Beyond that, I was playing golf at a
time when many courses at home were
not yet open and had scheduled a date
with a long, white sand beach after the
round. And if a few friendly y’alls from
the staff at Kiva Dunes GC – as in, “Y’all
have a nice round now” – still wasn’t evi-
dence enough, there was one more ir-
refutable sign just off the tee at the 16th
hole – an alligator lazing on the edge of
a pond-side bunker with a golf ball just
inches from its bumpy head.
Happily, not mine. I got by that hazard
without incident, avoided another gator
– if not double bogey – on the last hole
